Mai Chau Lodge is a veritable paradise after the intense hustle and bustle of Hanoi. Four hours south of the city you’ll find this small 16-room boutique hotel, nestled amongst the rice paddies and at the foot of magnificent mountains.
Given its rural surrounds, you’ll find plenty of beguiling landscapes here, not to mention some well-deserved peace and quiet. The hotel’s charm isn’t restricted to the outdoors either; inside you can expect traditional furnishings, dark woods and warm-hued décor.
Fuel your morning with a great breakfast, which is included in most room rates (see detail below). When the hunger pangs kick in again, head to the hotel’s Bo Luong Restaurant which serves up excellent Vietnamese fare alongside delightful views of the lotus pond.
The 16 rooms have been decked out with traditional hardwood furnishings, crisp sheets and plenty of rustic charm, making for a very comfortable stay indeed. If you’re lucky you may bag yourself a room with glorious views of the surrounding mountains or rice paddies.
The activities on offer here are great and unexpected: enjoy a dip in the gorgeous pool, head to the hotel’s private bat cave for a rather unusual yoga class, or unwind in the bubbling hot tub, sauna and steam room. Up for an adventure? Bicycle rental, tour guides, rock climbing, kayaking and trekking can also be arranged through the hotel.
