Nestled in the heart of the winemaking region of Chianti Classico, Villa Mangiacane is a magnificent 15th-century estate built by the Machiavelli family. It bears the unmistakable hand of the Renaissance master Michelangelo, who designed the property. Located just 12 kilometres south of Florence, the site is comprised of Palazzo Machiavelli and Villa Mazzei, and is set within 600 acres of flourishing vineyards and olive groves. Luxurious facilities and unique sculpture gardens combine with breathtaking Tuscan views over to the Duomo in Firenze.
The buildings are fully staffed and between them boast grand salons and dining areas, traditional wine cellars, frescoed terraces, a pool area, fitness centre, and a room for treatments. The rooms are all fully air-conditioned and there is WiFi throughout the villa. And a complimentary shuttle service to and from Florence is provided on a daily basis. The classic beauty of the houses combined with their history, art, and idyllic countryside setting create the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable holiday, or even a wedding.
Lunches are ususlly served alfresco, generally featuring salads and light Tuscan specialities, and can be enjoyed in the herbal garden or around the pool in the summer. Dinners are served in the restaurant located in Villa Mazzei and include traditional delights such as Bistecca alla Fiorentina, as well as other local plates. Head Chef Francesco Lagi has 28 years of experience, and is also on hand for cooking classes.
The estate has a total of 28 individually decorated guest rooms, made up of 15 double rooms and 13 suites, spread across Palazzo Machiavelli and Villa Mazzei.
Villa Mangiacane has two outdoor swimming pools, one of which is located next to the main Villa in the sculpture garden. Lazing at by the water, guests have views over the beautiful hamlet of San Andrea and the city of Florence on the horizon.
Mangiacane Extra Virgin Olive Oil has always played a large part in the estate's history; today their modern extraction plant produces a superior product that's a must-try, alongside their top-quality wines too. Hot air ballooning and art lessons are just some of the other activities available, and of course with Florence only 25 minutes away, and Siena just under a hour, guests will find themselves spoilt for choice.
