Perfectly located in the beating heart of Thessaloniki, a stay at The Caravan means you are just moments away from all the best that Greece’s second city has to offer. Housed in a neoclassical villa from the 1920s, The Caravan has been thoroughly refurbished and brought vividly up to date by a brilliant team of young entrepreneurs, who came up with the concept during a friends road trip together in Spain. Their philosophy is simple: ‘Hospitality is the people’ meaning that their focus is you. The atmosphere is young, fun and informal, with a mishmash of retro décor and a communal cafe space popular with guests and locals alike.
The hotel’s airy cafe-bar is a great space to relax on bohemian furniture of varying styles with a coffee or a signature cocktail mixed up by one of the founding team members, whose passion for their hotel is clear, with their attention to detail and level of customer service. The colourful bar with its pops of bright pinks, blues and yellows serves some unique snacks too.
A breakfast buffet combining Greek flavours with traditional continental items is available to guests in the cafe-bar.
While the hotel is housed in a neoclassical block from the 1920s, the interior is distinctly modern, with clean lines and bursts of bright colours across the 13 rooms. The quirky mismatched tables and chairs continue into the bedrooms, and blend well with large comfy beds and artsy light fixtures. Most rooms will have a balcony overlooking the cityscape as well as power showers and toiletries provided, and the most premium suites include a plush living area.
The friendly staff are always pleased to share with you how best to see their city. Bike rental can be organised at the front desk, which is a great way to explore the sights. Cycling along the waterfront towards the famous White Tower overlooking the Thermaic Gulf is particularly picturesque.
The main square Aristotelous, lively with market stalls and chirpy locals, is just 850 metres from the hotel, a 10-minute walk. The principal shopping street Tsimiski is just 5-minutes away on foot as well, packed with cool boutiques, traditional tavernas and vibrant nightlife options.
