Ackergill Tower is a truly magical Chic Retreat, standing majestically on the rugged shores that mark the tip of the Scottish Highlands. Over 600 years old, this beautiful castle has maintained its authenticity and historical charm, seen through the antique furnishings and period décor.
It gets better: surrounded by 3000-acres of private grounds, Ackergill is also home to the world’s largest treehouse, which comes complete with its own bedroom. Add to that its breathtaking views over Scottish Highlands and ocean, not to mention the charming staff and just 17 rooms, and you’re set for that much-needed peace and quiet.
Ackergill is well renowned for its food; the fine dining restaurant is a definite must during your stay. Specialising in Scottish fare, the restaurant dishes up some exceptional meals which are all made using seasonal, locally sourced produce. Sunday lunches here are a real treat, as are the traditional afternoon teas which come complete with freshly-baked cakes and finger sandwiches.
A great breakfast is served in the mornings and is included in most room rates (see rate detail below).
No two of the 17 rooms at Ackergill Tower are the same, but each has been lovingly designed with plenty of character and much attention to detail. In true Scottish fashion, some rooms come decked out with tartan fabrics, while others feature patterned wallpapers, antique furnishings or four poster beds. If you’re lucky, you may even bag a room with a sea view.
There is an endless list of things to do nearby, including golf, archery and clay pigeon shooting - not to mention some lovely country walks in the grounds. The charming John ‘O Groats village (the most northern spot in the UK) is just a 20-minute drive away, and definitely worth a visit during your stay.
