Each of the guesthouse’s seven rooms are enchanting, and all have wonderful views over the gardens. Antique furnishings and elements of the original architecture lend a great deal of character, and the rooms are surprisingly spacious considering the historical nature of the building. For a particular treat, the suite is housed in the top of the old dove tower. Split over two levels, it boasts a private balcony with breathtaking views.
Nestled in the green hills of Umbria, Dimora Sotrica Torre Palombara is a simple yet elegant hideaway in this beautiful corner of rural Italy. This family-run guesthouse dates back to the 15th-century, and the historic dove tower still echoes with the soft cooing of nesting doves. Interiors make good use of the original features, with evocative exposed beams and expansive stone fireplaces creating a real atmosphere of tradition and history. Torre Palombara is all about slowing down and enjoying the charm and beauty of the Umbrian countryside. The landscaped swimming pool and panoramic terrace offer achingly pretty views of the surrounding hills and valleys, while many of the region’s most enchanting historic towns are just a short drive away. With only seven boutique bedrooms, your stay at this Chic Retreat will be one of tranquility and beauty.
The hotel’s pool is perfect for a refreshing splash during sun-kissed summer afternoons, while the gardens are full of private nooks and picturesque corners perfect for an idyllic picnic.
‘The Green Heart of Italy’, Umbria is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt regions in the country, and historic towns and villages are dotted throughout its rolling hills. The picturesque hill-top town of Narni is just a short drive from Torre Palombara; further afield, Spoleto and Assisi both boast stunning historic churches and architecture. For those of an active disposition, mountain biking, hiking and white-water rafting are available in the surrounding hills, and the helpful team at Torre Palombara will be happy to arrange excursions for you.
A delicious buffet breakfast is laid on daily, where you can enjoy homemade cakes and steaming cups of Italian coffee as the morning sunshine basks the surrounding gardens in soft golden light. While Torre Palombara has no restaurant, owner-manager Leonardo will be happy to arrange meals if given advance notice. There’s a real emphasis on local produce and flavours, and the fields where many of the ingredients originated are visible as you take the meal in the charming dining room, which has beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.
There are many excellent eateries serving regional fare close to Torre Palombara, particularly in the nearby town of Narni.
