Once the mansion of the Marquis de Quinta Roja, this Baroque boutique hotel holds an intriguing history. Though restored for modern-day living, the villa remains much the same as it would have in the days of the Knights of the Order of Alcantara: ancient terracotta roof tiles slope towards a cool interior courtyard, while detailed wooden balustrades line airy verandas.
The history doesn’t end with the hotel: located in the centre of Garachico, its surrounds have many stories to tell as well. From noble houses and centuries-old streets, to quirky lava rock pools; there is plenty on your doorstep to keep you occupied ‒ and that’s before you hit the beach.
This is a family-friendly hotel that also welcomes pets (at an extra charge).
An excellent continental buffet breakfast is served in the mornings, including fresh croissants, fruits, cheeses and meats among other tasty delights. Breakfast is included in most room rates (check rate detail).
There is also a lovely little restaurant at the back of the hotel, serving tapas and drinks throughout the day.
The 20 rooms are traditionally furnished with some bearing the building’s original wooden shutters, while others feature smooth wooden floors, original wooden ceilings or charming views into the street below. If you’re travelling with the little ones, the Junior Suite is ideal, with plenty of space and twin beds. It's worth noting that there is a 2 night minimum stay.
Take a dip in the nearby outdoor swimming pool, which has free access for guests, or if you fancy something more adventurous, there are amazing natural seawater swimming pools nearby, carved out of the dramatic volcanic rock. After a long day, head back to the hotel for a turn in the steamy sauna and pampering hot tub.
Pedal your way around the city and surrounding countryside on a mountain bike, which are available to hire. Alternatively, explore the city on foot; the friendly staff are more than happy to recommend their favourite spots in Garachico and beyond.
