Set across a beautifully converted Art Nouveau building, there is Scandi style in abundance at this central Stockholm boutique hotel. Originally built in 1910 to house a school, the hotel is named after a particularly popular headmistress and nods to the building’s history are dotted throughout.
A little larger than our usual Chic Retreat - what Miss Clara lacks in daintiness, she certainly makes up for in design. With interiors by Gert Wingårdh, there is a focus on Swedish materials - natural leathers, limestone and bentwood abound whilst original features like the grand staircase, worn-smooth parquet floors and arch windows still sing out.
The staff are laid-back but lovely - on hand to assist with any needs throughout your stay without ever becoming intrusive. A great pick for a Chic city escape.
A simple but good breakfast is served each morning with homemade jams and freshly squeezed juice (the waffles are a particular treat). The buzzing restaurant serves brunch, lunch and dinner with a menu featuring plenty of seasonal Swedish produce.
Rooms continue in the sleek Scandi style with the building’s original features set neatly alongside more contemporary fittings. Beds boast crisp white linens and the glass-fronted bathrooms come with the added-treat of Orla Kiely toiletries.
There is a good gym on site along with a sauna, perfect to unwind in after a hard day’s exploring.
Located on Sveavägen, one of Stockholm’s main streets in the revamped and vibrant Norrmalm district you’re spoilt for choice on great shops, restaurants and bars nearby. There is plenty of public transport to explore further afield with Gamla Stan just a few metro stops away.
