Set on an 18th-century sugar plantation, this nineteen-room boutique hotel on Nevis Island is as characterful as it is beguiling. From the whitewashed walls and dark wood furnishings, to the bold art and 60-acre tropical gardens, Montpelier has been lovingly decorated in a classic Caribbean style - it’s little wonder it has allured a string of royals and nobility to date.
The hotel is run by the lovely Hoffman family - not to mention their gorgeous labrador - who will go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful stay. In fact, rest and relaxation is very much the order of the day here, with a private beach and spa on site.
It’s worth noting that this hotel is not suitable for children aged five years and under.
The award-winning dining experience at Montpelier is a must during your stay, with anything from light bites, to fine dining, to cocktails. Restaurant 750 takes you on a gastronomic adventure through a range of imaginative takes on Caribbean classics, while Mill Privee offers a more private fine dining experience in the converted sugar mill.
For something more casual, the poolside Indigo restaurant and bar serves light bites and some rather impressive handcrafted cocktails. All food is prepared using organic ingredients where possible.
A great breakfast is served in the mornings and is included in most room rates (see rate detail below).
There are nineteen rooms at Montpelier Plantation, each of which has been individually designed with a mix of old and new decked out with a blend of modern furnishings and old-world Caribbean charm. Some even feature vibrant artwork or four-poster beds. Speaking of beds, all are fitted with premium bedding for a good night’s sleep. Bathrooms are sleek and come with the added treat of designer toiletries.
If you’re looking for a restorative break, you’ve come to the right place. Take a swim in the sun-drenched outdoor pool, sunbathe on the hotel’s private stretch of beach (the hotel offers a beach shuttle), or book in for a massage or treatment at the spa.
Those seeking something more active are also in luck, with a tennis court on site and bikes available to hire at the hotel. Yoga classes and cookery courses can also be arranged.
