Hidden away on the west coast of Sri Lanka on the ancient Kalpitiya peninsula - you will find Palagama Beach. With less of a focus on your traditional luxuries - simple pleasures abound at this sweet and lovely seafront spot. Enjoy days spent on the beach, honest, home-cooked meals and some of the most spectacular sunsets we’ve seen, with big skies turning from azur through pink to red and onto inky black, as the sun drops into the sea and a blanket of stars unfurls above you.
The hotel’s restaurant, Corallia, offers a rather special atmosphere - set beneath a traditional cajan roof but open on all sides, you can make the most of the vista whilst enjoying the tastiest local fare.
The fourteen cabanas are dotted about the gardens and seafront - with the latter options coming in at slightly more. Simple in design, the cabanas are mostly constructed from woven palms, wood and cajan creating a charmingly rustic effect and some come with fun, open-air bathrooms.
While away your days beneath a palm tree on the beach, or lazing by the inviting freshwater, infinity pool before booking in for a massage at the hotel’s on-site spa or a yoga class.
It’s not just rest and relaxation that keeps guests coming back, with plenty to keep the more active amongst us entertained at Palagama Beach. Head out in the early morning to see dolphins and sperm whales (November to April), book in for kitesurfing lessons (May to October) or set off on safari to Sri Lanka’s largest National Park, Wilpattu, which plays host to the elusive leopard and is just over an hour’s drive from the hotel.
