If you’re keen to avoid the more brash tourist traps of Sorrento, then the 4-room Marina Piccola 73 could be just the place for you. Set on the seafront at the bottom of the cliff upon which the town is perched, this lovely little boutique hotel offers a wonderfully peaceful retreat, with stunning views out over the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius beyond.
Housed in a renovated historic mansion, the charming owner has created a seriously stylish spot, offering the perfect blend of old and new, with antiques aplenty, original tiling and brightly coloured walls.
A good breakfast is served up on the expansive terrace in the warmer months. There is a bar but no restaurant, though the staff are happy to make recommendations and help with bookings nearby.
There are four rooms here, which are spacious and boast sea views (the cheaper options just partial, mind) and no two are the same.
Set below the centre of town, it’s rather a steep 15-minute walk up/down, or the Sorrento lift will ferry you for a couple of euros return. In town you can enjoy a drink on pretty Piazza Tasso before exploring the maze of streets that span from here and the nearby Duomo.
There is a small beach right in front of the hotel and the lovely staff are able to help book tours and transfers. Pompeii is around a 45-minute drive away (26 km).
