Located in the heart of historic Siena, Campo Regio Relais is a cosy, six-bedroom boutique bed and breakfast. The terrace gives spectacular views of the medieval rooftops and spires of the city, making it ideal for watching the sunset, perhaps with a drink from the hotel’s honesty bar. Staff are friendly and attentive, and there is an atmosphere of intimacy that makes it perfect for a romantic city-break in one of Italy’s most beautiful cities.
Breakfast is served daily in the hotel’s small breakfast room, or on the terrace in the warmer months so that you can wake up with gothic tapestry of the city spread before you. Although the hotel does not provide more substantial meals, there are plenty of restaurants close by that the staff will be happy to point you towards. Just across the hotel is a charming bakery, serving delicious almond cookies and panforte, a Sienese cake with almonds, honey and candied fruit.
Each of the six bedrooms at Campo Regio Relais have been individually decorated in different styles and colours. Decorations range from lush satin curtains to mahogany beds, and windows give spectacular views over the city.
Campo Regio Relais is ideally situated within walking distance from many of Siena’s best sights. The city was passed over by the Renaissance-era economic book, resulting in a medieval heart that is remarkably well-preserved, with plenty of atmospheric cobbled streets and stunning gothic buildings to explore. The Museo Civico features rich frescoes detailing the history of Siena, from the medieval age to the Risorgimento. Don’t miss the twin frescoes detailing the ideals of good and bad government, considered to be two of the most important secular paintings of the Renaissance.
Take a trip beyond the city walls to experience the heavenly Tuscan countryside. Sample the wines of Chianti and Montepulciano, or for an evocative day trip off the beaten track, head to the atmospheric ruin of the 13th-century Cistercian Abbazia di San Galgano.
