Within 15 minutes of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Angkor, Anantara is a luxury 39 suite hotel that reflects Cambodia's rich heritage through its elegant interiors and Khmer-style decor. Oh, and guests have a personal butler on hand should they require anything.
Khmer cuisine is all about flavours, colours and aromas and these can be found in abundance in the dishes at Anantara Angkor, where organic produce and supporting local farmers are valued. Chi is the signature (and progressive) bar and restaurant, where modern plates may include Red River lobster curry and seafood amok (a much-loved Cambodian favorite). An international buffet breakfast is also available in that space from 6am onwards for early risers.
Dining by Design is ideal if you're after an intimate experience, and is a lovely way to celebrate a special occasion. Select your location and then choose what to feast on with the help of your own personal chef.
The L Lounge provides an all-day menu in bright and airy surrounds, where options include Western faves and Pan-Asian comfort food Or if you're by the pool, Salt is on hand for juices, cocktails, and light bites in a relaxing alfresco setting.
All of the 39 suites at Anantara Angkor have been decorated with rich Cambodian fabrics and furniture and teak flooring. The result is characterful and luxurious. In addition amenities such as WiFi, a minibar, and Nespresso machine, there are plenty of unexpected extras such as a complimentary smartphone and airport pick-up. The boutique rooms are well-suited to both couples and families (interconnecting bedrooms are available); some have balconies with pool views, others have a garden terrace.
Anantara is an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding areas and delve into Cambodia's culture and the Khmer Empire; private tours of the local markets and dedicated tuk-tuk transport around the streets of Siem Reap are a great way to soak up the atmosphere. Other options include venturing out by bicycle, jeep, Vespa or horseback to discover the area, or you may even choose to survey the landscape by helicopter or light plane.
And a trip to the mighty impressive Angkor Wat is a must – half and full day outings can be arranged. Early morning for sunrise or the evening for sunset – which time of day will you choose to visit the temple compex?
Then for some R&R, book a pampering session back at the hotel spa or sign up to one of the traditional Khmer cooking classes.
