Dating back to the 19th-century, Villa Soro is a rather grand 25-room boutique hotel in San Sebastián. One look at the grand country house and it’s easy to see why the place has been declared a Historical Heritage Building; there’s a certain elegance to the place, be it the spiralling marble staircase, glittering chandeliers or the ornately carved fireplace.
Originally a family home, Villa Soro maintains its personable feel today; while the majestic communal areas are certainly a treat to behold, the more modern rooms provide a more low-key retreat after a day’s adventures. Décor isn’t the hotel’s only appeal; the staff are absolutely charming and will go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay.
In the morning a great breakfast is served, which is included in most room rates (see rate detail below). While there is no restaurant at the hotel, San Sebastián is renowned for its plentiful supply of Michelin-starred haunts and gourmet eateries.
Contrary to the living room and lobby’s intricate furnishings and grand décor, the 25 rooms are decorated in a minimalist and modern style. Beds are kitted out with crisp sheets and there is a pillow menu to pick from. Bathrooms are spotless and come with the bonus of designer toiletries.
With stretches of pristine white sands just a short drive, or 15-minute walk away, the hotel is well-placed for sun-seekers and seaside-jaunters. Alternatively, rent a bike from the hotel and whiz round the town on two wheels.
The coastal city of San Sebastián is well-worth exploring while you’re here, with plenty of fun-loving bars, quirky shops and jaw-dropping sights (the gothic Cathedral is a definite highlight) to visit.
