Why so chic?
Why travel experts chose this hotel
Only when you book with Chic
With chic, minimalist décor and stunning views from its position high above the city in the trendy neighbourhood of Santa Teresa, Casa Marques is one of our favourite hideaways in Rio de Janeiro. The hotel is a real labour of love for Franco-Brazilian owners Louis and Jeannine, and playful, characterful touches are everywhere, such as the contemporary graffiti and local artworks that bring a splash of bright colour to the stylish white interiors.
Rooms are spread between a renovated colonial mansion and a modern annexe, and access between the two is facilitated by stylish contemporary walkways and staircases. The hotel boasts a stunning infinity pool and rooftop terrace, perfect for laying back and sitting a Caipirinha as the sun sets over Rio.
Breakfast is a delicious spread, perfect for enjoying from the terrace as the sun rises above the city spread out below you. The hotel’s kitchen serves a lunch menu of light bites, including salads, soups and sandwiches which are simple but beautifully executed. For more substantial meals, the hotel team will be more than happy to recommend their favourite spots.
Bedrooms have a stylish minimalist décor, enhanced with original works by prominent local artists. Floor to ceiling windows flood the rooms with natural light, and provide stunning views of the mountains, the city, or Guanabara Bay.
It’s no secret that we love a rooftop terrace at Chic Retreats, and Casa Marques has a truly spectacular one, complete with a chic infinity pool. Suited to refreshing splashes rather than lengthy swims, the pool gives mesmerising views over Guanabara Bay and Christ the Redeemer.
Ensconced in the hills of the artsy Santa Teresa neighbourhood, Casa Marques is slightly removed from the city centre, but many of Rio’s most exciting spots are just a short drive away. Take a ride on the bight yellow tram that has been plying the same route from Santa Teresa to the city centre since 1877, making it one of the oldest electric railways in Latin America. Enjoy the stunning gardens at the Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruínas, a municipal park set around the remains of the cultural hub of early 20th-century Rio.
Rio is, of course, famous for its beaches. The best - Copacabana, Leblon and Ipanema- are reachable by just a short drive. If you want to fully immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Rio, the helpful team at Casa Marques can arrange samba or capoeira classes.
