With so much to allure, it’s hard to know where to start with Elephant Pepper Camp; perhaps at its namesake, aptly taking its title from the elephant pepper tree that grows around the property, or perhaps at its remote setting in the world-renowned Maasai Mara ecosystem. This is a region prized for its outstanding game viewing and exceptional populations of animals such as zebra, gazelle, giraffes, leopards and cheetahs - to name but a few.
Small and personable, the camp comprises of ten gorgeous tents that have been designed with a rather rustic and cosy feel - think warm hues, dark woods and sleek artwork.
Respect for the hotel’s spectacular environment lies at the heart of Elephant Pepper Camp. No generators, no permanent structures, no harsh modern lights; just the sights and sounds of the African bush can be found here. In fact, the hotel is so dedicated to its eco-friendly ethos that it runs on solar power and has set up a conservancy dedicated to protecting the wildlife, environment and local residents.
Using recipes passed down from the founder of the camp, here you can dine on authentic Italian dishes that are certainly welcome after a day’s wildlife spotting. Dining at Elephant Pepper Camp is a relaxed and communal affair, where you can share stories with other guests in the beautifully decorated ‘mess tent’.
If you prefer to dine privately, romantic dinners can be arranged with notice.
A cooked-to-order breakfast is served in the mornings and is included in most room rates (see rate detail below).
There are ten tents at the camp, which are all charmingly appointed with a warm palette, dark woods and patterned rugs. Each tent has an ensuite bathroom, which comes with running water showers (unusual for many camps in the area).
Elephant Pepper Camp sits in a privately managed conservancy in the heart of the Maasai Mara ecosystem. Game-driving is restricted to those vehicles belonging to lodges within the conservancy, so Elephant Pepper guests have this outstanding part of the Mara almost to themselves.
The Elephant Pepper Camp guides are based in the camp and are highly certified, knowing where all the best viewing spots can be found. From rhinos and lions to zebra and giraffes, the area is abundant in wildlife - don’t forget to pack a camera!
