Ever wanted to build a tree house but never did? Now here is your chance to stay in a rather magnificent one. Orion B&B, just 15 minutes' walk from St-Paul de Vence in the South of France, is your very own Jungle Book hideaway for two or more nights at a time (sorry no bookings for just one).
It's evident from the love and attention that's been poured into these tree houses that Orion B&B is more than just a hobby for creative owner Diane. The wooden structures that make up this small boutique hotel are surrounded by nature and the twitter of birds, the frog chorus, and the swoop of owls. There's no place for high heels or designer clothes here.
This chic retreat offers an escape from the material things that tie us to our every day lives – a real experience, simple, utterly charming, and totally mesmerising.
WiFi is available in the breakfast area and garden.
There's no restaurant, but there is everything you need to make a picnic, and there are plenty of options to choose from in St-Paul de Vence including Le Tilleul and La Colombe d'Or – unpretentious French dining at its best. A delicious vegetarian and organic breakfast is served every morning at a communal table overlooking the pool, and there are tea and coffee making facilities in each tree house.
The redwood tree houses are aptly named Bagheera, Shere Khan, King Louie, and Colonel Hathi, and each of them houses a different number of people. King Louie is connected to Mowgli and sleeps 2 adults and 2 children, while Bagheera provides space for 2. Perhaps our favourite is Shere Khan: spacious, full of light, and tucked away in the woods. All have heating during the winter months and are cool during the summer, and each has a flushing toilet, shower room, and its own terrace with magnificent views.
In addition to the tree houses, there's also a small house in the garden, Akela, which sleeps 4 – perfect for those looking for more independence and privacy.
Relax in a hammock high in the treetops, sooth away your worries in the naturally filtered pebble-edged pool or take a nap in the shade while listening to the birds and bees. Enjoy a sauna before dipping into the refreshing water, followed by an aromatherapy massage or yoga lesson.
Located within walking distance of the pretty medieval village of Saint-Paul de Vence and within a half an hour drive from the Mediterranean (between Nice and Antibes), Orion B&B is a perfectly positioned chic retreat. The nearest beaches are at Cagnes sur Mer, the trendy Juan-les-Pins or Antibes.
