A beautifully restored medieval priory on the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail in Provence, La Verriere offers a luxurious and exclusive retreat amidst a sweeping vista of lavender, sunflower fields, and olive groves. Owners Nicole and Xavier Rolet have sensitively restored the property in keeping with local styles, retaining as many original features of the medieval construction as possible. Faded frescoes and exposed stonework are perfectly complemented by more modern touches such as designer furnishings by Chelsea Textiles and Nobilis, creating a calming and comfortable ambience throughout. Outside, a heated infinity pool and Jacuzzi complete the elegant picture.
Wine-lovers are in for a particular treat, as the property is the home of the acclaimed Chêne Bleu Rhone wines. Produced from the biodynamic vineyards surrounding the villa, Nicole and Xavier’s vintages have won awards for their quality, and the hotel even hosts an annual ‘Extreme Wine Course’ featuring internationally-recognised guest speakers and teachers.
For an unforgettable escape in the blissful splendour of the Provençal countryside, La Verriere is available as an exclusive villa rental for groups of up to 17. During the peak summer months (30th June - 26th August), La Verriere is only available to hire in its entirety and for a minimum 7-night stay running Saturday to Saturday.
La Verriere has a fully-equipped professional kitchen, and if you’re renting the whole place the team can arrange for a private chef to cater to all of your culinary whims. Meals can be enjoyed al fresco or in the grand surroundings of the medieval dining room with its stone arches and roaring fireplace. Needless to say, lunch and dinner are best accompanied by a selection from La Verriere’s excellent cellar, and wine-tasting sessions can be arranged.
For stays during April, May, June, October or November, bed and breakfast is available. On warmer days breakfast is served buffet-style by the pool, or if the weather isn't playing ball, inside. If you're heading out to explore the region, ask in advance and a tasty picnic can be prepared to take with you. Or for those preferring to relax on-site, book into the Winery Wing terrace for lunch. Come evening, a table d'hôte menu is offered, featuring the likes of roast guinea fowl with mushroom and onion sauce, baby spinach and potato dauphinoise, and apple tarte tatin with vanilla ice-cream and rhubarb compote.
La Verriere’s 4 suites and 3 double guestrooms can accommodate up to 17 guests in luxurious comfort. The elegant interiors are inspired by the culture, landscape and colours of Provence. Gorgeous Frette linens and silk duvets ensure a good night’s sleep, while en-suite bathrooms are equipped with powerful showers and Marius Fabre smellies.
Kick back and let your troubles wash away at La Verriere. Relax on the sun-kissed patio or in the picturesque gardens; the heated infinity pool is perfect for a refreshing dip in-between sunbathing sessions. And there's an outdoor Jacuzzi if you fancy a longer, more luxurious soak. The villa has a fully-equipped gym for those that want to keep up with their fitness routines. Enjoy a few friendly games on the floodlit tennis court, or do as the locals do during the sultry afternoons with a game of pétanque.
Further afield, the surrounding countryside is ideal for nature-lovers. Hike through nearby lush fields and mountainous crags, or take to your bike for a chance to pedal famed Mount Ventoux, which makes up part of the Tour de France. Rock climbing is available too, in the Dentelles de Montmirail. If you’re after a spot of local colour, the nearby market town of Vaison-la-Romaine offers a quintessential Provençal experience with its fascinating Roman ruins and bustling farmers’ market.
