Full of character and charm, The White Hart country inn is just a few minutes from the A3 in West Sussex, and within easy reach of the Roman city of Chichester. Part of the Upham Group, this little gem is cosy and welcoming, and features peaceful en-suite rooms spread across the main house and the rear barn. If you're planning a walking weekend on the South Downs, this is the ideal place to stay.
From cocktails and cheese boards to children's menus and sharing boards, and no matter your age or your palate, The White Hart has something for you. Relax and enjoy a seasonal meal where ingredients have been sourced locally from family-run suppliers where possible. The likes of spiced dressed crab, game terrine, antipasti plates, tandoori cod, and ale battered cod feature on the menu.
Decorated predominately in creams and browns, the en-suite bedrooms are modern and comfy, with plenty of rural charm.
The location of the White Hart is perfect if you're after weekend of walking the South Downs Way. If you like Downton Abbey and period dramas then you may be interested in visiting Uppark, a 17th-century National Trust house located just down the road. English author H G Wells spent many of his early years there, where his mother was the housekeeper.
Just a 20-minute drive away is Goodwood Racecourse, home to Glorious Goodwood and one of the most beautiful courses in the world. And the motorsport festivals Revival and Festival of Speed take place at the Motor Circuit, which is also set within the 12,000-acre estate.
A similar distance away is the cathedral city of Chichester; the church itself is home to contemporary and medieval art including some very rare sculptures.
