a little hideaway in Umbria
Just 15 minutes from the centre of Perugia, Casamassima is surrounded by the beautiful green hills of Umbria, a magical region in the centre of Italy. This hidden gem is a simple, but stylish Chic Retreat or 'agriturismo', offering an unpretentious escape from everything and everyone! With just 4 spacious suites, a deluxe double room and private swimming pool, Casamassima is a very private and tranquil place and offers a welcome change to the larger luxury hotels on offer in town.
Casamassima is a working farm (agriturismo) which was started by Prof. Giuseppe Ragnotti (Professor of Anatomy at the University of Perugia), grandfather of the current owner, at the end of the 1800s. So passionate about agriculture was he that during the second half of his life he dedicated himself completely to the production of wine and the best olive oil which received the Golden Medal for olive oil Ila Esposizione Campionaria Internazionale at Foligno in 1902, and the Diploma of Merit for Work in the Field of Production of High Quality Olive Oils in 1913. These traditions are continued in the same way using some of the same methods. The university town of Perugia is only 15 minutes away and the charming towns of Assisi and Citta di Castello are close by with some lovely shops, cafes and restaurants. Do hire a car as there are lots of pretty villages and towns to explore in this part of Umbria.
Home made meals using local produce are served at Casamassima.
