La Cuccagna is a traditionally built Italian Chic Retreat set in the heart of the Umbrian countryside between Perugia and Gubbio. Owners, Sarah and Salvatore, who live on the first floor, have painstakingly restored this charming farmhouse into a simple boutique hotel in Umbria with 4 rooms (including 1 suite) in the main farmhouse, a further independent B&B apartment and La Stalletta, a self-catering cottage for two, in the old cow shed. Exposed beams, thick stone walls and wooden lintels are just some of the original features that still remain.
La Cuccagna is a stylish and affordable place to stay, perfectly positioned for exploring the cultural and historical villages of Umbria and neighbouring Tuscany. La Cisterna, an independent two storey apartment, is a contemporary hideaway with all the same comforts and luxuries as the farmhouse B&B rooms but with a little more space and a kitchenette with basic cooking facilities. An ideal bolthole for a couple or a family with one or two children who can sleep on the pull out bed.
The dining room at La Cuccagna provides a delicious breakfast to guests in the morning (breakfast is included for all guests apart from those staying in La Stalletta which is self-catering) and also offers daily homemade lunches and dinners twice a week.
Nothing beats a stone oven baked pizza and guests at La Cuccagna are in for a treat! Salvatore has his own stone oven and makes the most delicious pizza for the guests. Pizza Night is a fun evening and a big hit with everyone.
If you want to sample traditional rustic food in a homely environment, this is the place to eat.
There are several restaurants within easy reach of La Cuccagna and Sarah and Salvatore can make bookings and recommendations for you.
The entire ground floor of the main farmhouse has been designed to house three comfortable bed and breakfast rooms and one suite. Sarah and Salvatore live on the first floor but are very mindful of your privacy and the two floors are completely separate, each with their own entrance and living accommodation. All rooms and the suite are either double or twin and all are en-suite. Two rooms have a pull out bed if required for a 3rd person or child. The rooms enjoy a lovely living area as well as a spacious outdoor terrace with shaded pergola and far reaching views.
La Stalletta (the old cow shed) sleeps 2 (+1) and has an open plan kitchen, living area, double bedroom and bathroom. It also has a lovely spacious terrace with a pergola, perfect for dining al fresco. La Cisterna, an independent contemporary apartment with all the same comforts and luxuries as the B&B rooms but with more space, a simple kitchenette and luxury bathroom. An ideal bolthole for a couple or a family with one or two children who can sleep on the comfortable sofabed.
The infinity pool at La Cuccagna is big enough for those wanting to keep up their lengths and is positioned to make the most of the views of the Umbrian hills and valleys. Surrounded by 11 acres of countryside and seasonal produce such as fennel, truffles, porcini and asparagus, La Cuccagna embraces the wonders of nature. Pasta-making courses and truffle hunting can be organised.
The pool area and garden have been landscaped and planted with old olive trees, vines, fruit trees and La Cuccagna's own steady supply of fresh herbs. La Cuccagna have recently added a poolside therapeutic infrared sauna.
