Situated between Gubbio and Perugia the magnificent Castello di Petroia is steeped in history and dates back to the 9th-century. With ownership varying over the centuries between the Church and nobility, it has been in the Sagrini family since the early 1900s.
Sitting amidst olive trees and parkland, this Chic Retreat overlooks the hills and valleys surrounding Gubbio. The medieval castle has 13 rooms and suites, which are spread throughout the three buildings and are surrounded by the original medieval walls.
Castello de Petroia welcomes children, and cots are provided free of charge.
There is a network of lovely footpaths around the Castello di Petroia estate, allowing guests to explore the beautiful parkland. Soak up the sun as you explore the meadows, streams and woods.
Surrounded by nature sits the hotel's crystal blue pool, where you can enjoy a tranquil swim. Alternatively, guests can go truffle hunting, or relax with an in-room massage.
Gubbio, Assisi, Norcia and Perugia are all towns worth visting, and Perugia has a great selection of shops and restaurants for you to explore.
Dining in the medieval Guidubaldo hall at Castello di Petroia is an experience not to be missed. This is where guests enjoy their daily breakfast of cakes, fruit and Umbrian cured meats, among other delicacies.
With thick stone walls and a large fireplace, the Accomandugi Restaurant is a very romantic setting in which to spend the evenings. Chef Walter Passeri has created an authentic Umbrian menu, which also includes both meat and fish dishes. Staff are on hand to suggest the perfect wine to accompany your meal.
The restaurant prides itself on using fresh ingredients from the grounds. Pasta is home-made, Chianina meat comes from their Castel valleys, and truffles are fresh from the estate land. The result is delicious and creative food.
