Set in vibrant Montparnasse, with its impressive list of artistic former residents, owners Charlotte and Laurent have beautifully captured the area’s history in their charming 20-bedroom boutique hotel. There’s a decidedly creative feel to Hôtel des Académies et des Arts - with walls emblazoned by the corps blancs of artist Jérôme Mesnager and sculptures from Sophie de Watrigant adorning the stairwell, not to mention the art-filled and rather opulent Tea Room.
Just around the corner from the Jardin du Luxembourg in the stylish 6ème and a 15/20-minute walk to Saint-Germain-des-Prés - this Chic Retreat is certainly well placed to explore. What’s more, Charlotte and Laurent, along with their charming staff, will go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay with wonderful local knowledge and recommendations.
With deep pink velvet and dark leather seating, Hotel des Academies et des Arts' Tea Room, Chez Charlotte, is an alluring spot. Enjoy delicious macaroons by the famed Pierre Hermé and tea from Palais des Thés served alongside a changing selection of artwork from photography to paintings and video art. Breakfast is also served here and features freshly squeezed juice, breads and patisseries fresh from the oven along with homemade jams.
As with many a Paris boutique hotel, the rooms do come up quite compact here. Though what they lack in size they certainly make up for in style with the 20 rooms divided into four different motifs, each inspired by an artist or Parisian theme, namely: Man Ray, Ruhlmann, Rive Gauche and Comédienne.
Retreat to the hotel’s wellness room for a rejuvenating massage or facial before heading down for Afternoon Tea.
Venture out to explore the vibrant art scene in the surrounding neighbourhood along with fantastic brasseries and bars. Whizz up nearby Tour Montparnasse for 360° views of Paris, drop down into the eery and extraordinary Catacombs or you could just sit and watch the world go by in picturesque Jardin du Luxembourg which are all a 10/15-minute walk from the hotel.
