Driving down the A420 in Oxfordshire you wouldn't believe a turning down Old High Street would take you to Old Headington, a charming pocket of ivy-clad village houses and home to The Black Boy Pub and Hotel, a gastropub with 5 rooms. Abigail Rose, who has been in the restaurant world since she was 11, and Chris Bentham, award-winning chef, had met whilst working for Raymond Blanc and took on The Black Boy Pub and Hotel in 2008. After many accolades, they are still going strong. Raymond Blanc is not only their mentor but an avid supporter of Chris's food and work ethic and Abigail's attention to detail and professionalism.
The interiors of the restaurant at The Black Boy Pub and Hotel are definitely more restaurant than pub, with parquet flooring, pretty wallpaper and an elegant dining setting. The devil is in the detail and here Chris has it down to a fine art; thin crispy batter on the fish & chips, silky smooth chicken liver parfait and a melt-in-the mouth white chocolate pudding with raspberry sorbet. Traditional dishes sit happily next to some fine vegetarian options including wild mushroom lasagne and the wine list even includes an astonishingly good Welsh wine (a nod to Abigail's roots). Breakfast is a feast, coffee is free-flowing and there is plenty on the menu to suit vegetarians too; we loved seeing avocado paired with poached egg, and the Irish black pudding with barley is the best we've ever had. On a hot summer's evening head out to the award-winning garden at the back; designed and built by Abi's husband Alistair, it's extremely popular with guests.

Headington is easily accessible by either car, bus or train, and near the major ring road. There is an Oxford airport in Kidlington (fifteen minutes away), but London airports are a handy bus ride away, as the bus collects you from your Terminal, and can drop in Headington, which is a five to ten minute walk from the wonderful pub & Hotel. The service runs all day and night, but it is always worth checking the times.
A tube train can be caught to the main train stations in London, where you can then catch a train to Oxford, and a taxi to the Pub & Hotel.
The hotel can always arrange collection by a private taxi, payable by yourselves, to collect and bring you to Oxford. The journey can vary from approximately an hour to maximum of two hours and fifteen minutes depending on the traffic from the major airports.
The nearest airport is Oxford, Kidlington, however all the major London airports are also nearby and have flights to more destinations.
15% deposit will be taken at the time of booking.
If a cancellation is made within 3 days of the arrival date, the equivalent of one night will be charged.
Check in is from 1.00pm to 10.30pm, unless alternative arrangements have been made. Check out is by 10.30am.

The hotel will always try to accomodate children however no additional beds are available, and minors must be accompanied by an adult in the room.

Any theft of towels or dressing gowns will result in a £40 charge to the guest. Any damage deemed purposeful to the rooms would be discussed with the guest, and an appropriate charge will be made.
