Named for the Japanese word for ‘enlightenment’, the stylish Kenshō Boutique Hotel certainly has all the ingredients for zen-like levels of relaxation. The hotel’s architecture is inspired by the natural landscape of the Cyclades, so expect plenty of whitewashed natural stone walls and weathered wood, complemented by design pieces by leading artists from across the world.
The facilities are as impressive as the pool’s striking view over Ornos Bay. We particularly love Kenshō’s spa, which has a range of pampering features hidden in its cavernous, subterranean design. The hotel’s restaurant is a real stand-out on an island known for its foodie credentials, and the bar’s panoramic views and creative mixologists will ensure you return every evening for the famous sunsets. Elegant and soothing, Kenshō is the ideal hideaway for those looking for zen on Mykonos.
Enjoy a sundowner at the hotel bar, where the mixologists eschew cocktail lists, preferring to create their own concoctions based on your current mood and inclination.
The hotel’s restaurant, headed by chef George Stylianoudakis, has won acclaim throughout the Cyclades for its bold, innovative take on Greek dishes. Meals are an explosion of colour and flavour, and are presented so beautifully that it almost seems a shame to tuck in. Meals can be taken in the stylish dining area, complete with designer furniture and rustic ornamental driftwood, or on the terrace which boasts panoramic views over the bay.
Each of the hotel’s bedrooms and suites have been individually designed, and feature works by designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Paola Navone, and many more. We love the tiny details, such as the bespoke scent of sea-salt and figs developed by the hotel by a boutique perfumery in Athens. Bathrooms are open-plan and feature powerful showers or spacious bathtubs.
The pool, surrounded by chic sun-loungers, is the perfect spot to bask beneath cloudless Greek skies. For a pampering treat, head to the hotel’s subterranean spa, which is designed to resemble a natural cave. A wide range of treatments and massages are on offer, as well as futuristic massage beds complete with colour, sound and heat therapy. There’s also a fully-equipped fitness centre and a relaxing hammam for those that want to work up a sweat.
Kenshō is located in Ornos Bay, a short drive from Mykonos town. The nearby Psarou Beach is particularly famous for its crystal-clear waters and comfortable sun-beds, and there are a number of lively bars open throughout the day and late into the night.
