Housed in a renovated 18th-century mansion, La Maison des Lumières is a charming budget boutique hotel in the small town of Beaumont-de-Lomagne. With only six rooms, tranquility looms throughout the place – an atmosphere intensified by the serene garden and sleepy surroundings.
Owner-run, the warm and friendly Maurice and Sylviane have created a quirky little hotel decked out in knick-knacks and intriguing antiques from their travels.
From the relaxed bistro to the gourmet restaurant, La Maison des Lumières knows how to indulge. Only the freshest ingredients make it to the plate, all of which are locally sourced.
There is also lovely patio overlooking the garden and a small bar – the idyllic spot for an afternoon aperitif. A continental breakfast is also available for an additional charge.
There are six comfortable rooms here, with no two the same. Each takes a different theme, flaunting beautiful antiques and treasures that have been collected from the owners' travels across England, Finland, Kazakhstan and India. If you’re travelling with kids, opt for the suite, which comes with two bedrooms and can sleep up to five people.
After working on your suntan, cool off in the outdoor salt-water swimming pool, which is open during the summer months. There is also a steam room and small gym.
Service is warm and friendly, and the staff are always at hand to give their recommendations on places to see and eat. Located in Beaumont-de-Lomagne, a charming but quiet small town, you’re well-placed for laidback strolls and local cafés.
If you fancy a day trip, the nearest larger towns are Montauban, Castelsarrasin, Toulouse and Auch which are all within 45-minutes’ drive of the hotel.
