Voted hotel of the year by the Sunday Times, what is there not to like about the Beckford Arms new sister The Talbot Inn? Situated in Mells in Somerset this new 8 room Chic Retreat opened its doors in 2013 and has been almost fully booked since then. Expertly managed by Matt (ex Babington House) and his wife Clare who used to run one of the best pub restaurants in London (The Engineer, RIP) The Talbot Inn is a breath of fresh air for locals, the media crowd and for those looking for good honest food. The space is huge and the refurbishment has been more of a re-build and though owners Charlie and Dan describe it as a pub, we challenge anyone to find another pub like it! Owner Dan says Its going to be a bit more pubby then the Beckford Arms. Real ale, local ciders, lots and lots of pies, casseroles and slow-cooked food. And he was absolutely right.
Think refined pub food; a Coach House Grill Room with an indoor English BBQ; a cosy sitting room with sofas where on Sunday nights movies or popular TV programs like Downton are shown, and a pretty courtyard and garden which will really come alive in the warmer months. Talbot Ale (their own), a featured ale and Butcombe are served and there is a reasonably priced wine list and some speciality spirits. Don't leave without trying the famous and incredibly tasty home made sausage rolls.
