Villa des Orangers is a luxury riad in Marrakech, ideally positioned at the foot of the Koutoubia mosque and midway between the Royal Palace and the most famous square in the medina, Jemaa El Fna. Built in the 1930s as a private home, it was restored and transformed over a period of 9 months in 1998 by local craftsmen into a luxury hotel in Marrakech with 27 rooms and suites. Stand-out features include 3 swimming pools, one on the rooftop with views of the Atlas Mountains, pretty patios with flowers and fountains, 5 treatment rooms and a solarium. Perfect for families with older children (10 years upwards).
A hammam and scrub is one of essential relaxation rituals in Morocco and theres nowhere better to experience one than at the Spa Nuxe in Villa des Orangers after a day spent shopping in the souks or exploring the city. The spa also has 5 treatment rooms scented with rose petals and orange blossom.
Eat lunch around one of the pools or terraces, or under the shade of the orange trees on the patio. In the evening, dinner in the restaurant is a mix of typical Moroccan fare and Mediterranean-style influences prepared by young, talented chef Jean-Claude Oiry. Dishes include: truffle risotto, roasted turbot and carpaccio of smoked sea scallops, followed by grapefruit macaroons flavoured with mint and vanilla for dessert. If youre celebrating a special occasion or would rather have a private dinner party, there are private lounges available. The restaurant is also open to non-residential guests.
