Set in a beautiful 18th century palazzo-style house and tucked away in pretty Naxxar, the Chapel 5 Suites are very lovely indeed. With just a handful of rooms, this is more a boutique B&B than fully-fledged hotel, decked out with traditional décor, quirky touches and bold colours.
The vibe here is tranquil and relaxed, helped along by the dinky size and personal, charming service from owners Alex and Malcolm.
It’s worth noting that there’s a 5-night minimum stay here, and the property is not suitable for children under six.
A great breakfast is included in most room rates (check detail below) and can be enjoyed out by the pool in the warmer months. Due to its petite size the hotel does not have its own restaurant, but have a chat with Alex and Malcolm and they’ll point you to a few great spots nearby.
The six rooms are named and themed by colour – Orange, Red, Blue, Yellow and Violet – and offer an eclectic blend of styles; while some feature limestone walls, others are kitted out with Indonesian dark wood furnishings. What’s more, it’s quiet – perfect for some quality shut-eye.
There is a small courtyard pool (open seasonally) and a couple of pretty roof terraces with loungers. You can even request a massage or attend a weekly yoga class on them between April and November (extra charge applies).
It's well-worth exploring the island while you're here too. Naxxar is a small, pretty and delightfully untouristy medieval village – a great spot for a lazy stroll. The picturesque capital Valletta, the fortified town of Mdina and plenty of lovely beaches are also within reach – just a 15/20-minute drive away and easily reached by public transport.
How to get there
