With a standard of cool that’s more LA than Lisbon, the Memmo Alfama offers a jet-set style weekender. There’s no mistaking the European feel, though; as you lounge by the rooftop pool you’ll be looking out over Portuguese terracotta tiles as opposed to glinting skyscrapers.
You're in the heart of Alfama, Lisbon's oldest district, with plenty of winding alleyways to lose yourself down. But not to worry, the lovely staff will be on hand to help guide you on your wanderings.
Memmo Alfama is an adult-only property and therefore is not suitable for those under 16.
A good buffet breakfast is served each morning.
The rooftop wine bar is a scenic spot for an evening tipple, with a sleek and sophisticated design and, of course, those sweeping views.
There is no restaurant on site but you are spoilt for choice nearby.
The 42 rooms are elegant and contemporary, with calm, muted tones and smooth wooden floors. Due to the age of the building, rooms can come up small but there are a range of types available with some opening onto a shared terrace and others offering wonderful views.
It's worth noting that some of the bathrooms are glass-fronted though most offer curtains to preserve your modesty should you wish.
There is a rather surprisingly red-tiled rooftop plunge pool boasting views out over the rooftops of Alfama and onto the River Tagus beyond.
Alfama is one of Lisbon's oldest districts and decidedly picturesque with its winding cobbled streets and historic architecture, along with more recent updates in the form of street art and plenty of bars and restaurants.
You're also well-placed to explore further afield with many of Lisbon's sights within easy walking distance: Lisbon Cathedral (a 3-minute walk away), Praça do Comércio (a 10-minute walk away) and the Time Out Market (a 20-minute walk away).
