Nestled within the design neighbourhood of Santos, Casa Chafariz has been stylishly renovated to accommodate guests with the utmost comfort, luxury and charm in mind. The 5 sophisticated serviced apartments all showcase different elements of décor: whether it’s the stone-coloured tones of Suite Estrela or the sunset orange hue of Suite Miradouro, each has its own narrative.
Refurbed in 2018, the original architecture has been preserved, as has the building’s striking, cherry-red façade. Not only will you be able to enjoy a city escape at this boutique bolthole within the heart of Lisbon, you’ll also be able to soak up the historical surroundings. And you're just a 10-minute walk from Chiado, the area known for shopping, landmarks, theatres, and museums.
A breakfast of coffee, tea, milk, fresh orange juice and a mignardise (bite-sized treat) can be arranged for a fee and a minimum of 24 hours’ notice.
Close by – just a 5-minute walk – sits renowned restaurant A Travessa, where fine Portuguese dishes such as flaming monkfish in shrimp cream and grilled lamb tenderloin with Mediterranean salad are served. And the Time Out food market is just a 10-minute stroll away. Seeking out some of Lisbon patisseries is a must: locally-celebrated Pastelaria Aloma is a pastry haven, dishing out the famous Portuguese custard tarts – a delight for anyone with a sweet tooth.
The 5 self-catering apartments are located within the historical quarter and hip design district; the boutique property adjoins Chafariz da Esperança, a grand public fountain built in 1760, and one of the city’s majestic monuments.
The apartments showcase a blend of classic décor and contemporary furnishings – ceilings are decorated with regal embellishments, and original wood beams can be seen throughout, combining with modern touches such as stylish monochrome marble kitchen surfaces and king-size beds with crisp white sheets. All of the apartments have fabulous city views of either the fountain square or the neighbourhood of Chiado. Each benefits from online check-in and keyless access, and comes equipped with a dishwasher, iron and ironing board. Both Chafariz and Miradouro have a washing machine.
Suite Estrela and Santos are the ideal base for couples, while families and groups will likely opt for the larger 2-bed spaces of Miradouro, Chafariz and Esperança.
Important to note: the property complies with Turismo de Portugal's Clean and Safe stamp of approval, meaning it meets rigorous hygiene and cleaning requirements.
With the apartments surrounded by a host of things to do and see, Casa Chafariz is an ideal base. Immerse yourself in Santos district’s plentiful quaint antique shops and up and coming art galleries. Nearby sits the Basilica da Estrela, one of Lisbon’s structural wonders, with high ceilings, impressive paintings and marble interiors – a reminder of the city’s Renaissance past. And next to the church is Jardim da Estrela, with its lovely landscaped gardens. Just 10 minutes west of the apartments is the National Museum of Ancient Art, home to a flawless collection of Portuguese and European masterpieces.
Enjoy a short and pleasant tram ride to picturesque Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), a plaza bursting with restaurants and traditional cafés, surrounded by authentic yellow Pombaline architecture. The apartments are within walking distance of plenty of other neighbourhoods too: hilly Bairro Alto (head there for nightlife), riverside Alcântara, trendy Príncipe Real, Avenida da Liberdade with its designer shops, Moorish Mouraria, and downtown Baixa and Rossio (do check out Livraria Bertrand, the oldest operating book store in the world).
