Less is more at Palazzo Ducale Venturi, once a 16th-century fortress. This 20 room aristocratic palazzo in Puglia, Italy, is one of the first Ducal houses of Salento to opens its doors and welcome guests.
Beautiful in its simplicity, you're surrounded by five centuries of history, culture, art and original features, not to mention lush vineyards and olive groves.
Elegance and history combine to make this an atmospheric and romantic hideaway just 10 minutes from the sea.
Unwind in the spa, soak up the sun by the saltwater pool and indulge in mouth-watering dishes straight from the ancient wood ovens.
Two original wood ovens were discovered during the renovation of the Palazzo and have been brought back to their former glory. Mouth-watering dishes straight from the ovens and ancient recipes from Salento are too good to miss.
Breakfast is a relaxed affair and is laid out inside and outside during the warmer months. Expect fresh, local ingredients with a variety of homemade regional products and fragrant Italian coffee.
The Palazzo has 20 rooms & suites, all with stone floors and thick walls, typical of Puglia. Beautiful pieces of art and antiques are dotted around the rooms, complemented by luxury finishes and splashes of colour. Ortigia products are featured in all of the large en-suite bathrooms some of which have double showers.
Rooms are air-conditioned and soundproofed and as well as having complimentary WiFi they have flat screen TV with satellite channels.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the natural surroundings. Admire the views of the orange and olive groves, breathe in the scents from the open-air lounge and relax. The best way to enjoy Palazzo Ducale Venturi is to turn all your electronics and ignore the complimentary WiFi.
The outdoor pool is saltwater and the indoor pool is heated, converted from an underground oil mill. If you can drag yourself away from the pool and have the energy then you can do a work-out in the fully-equipped gym before being pampered in the spa. Choose from a list of classic, therapeutic or sports massages as well as traditional facial and body treatments.
Beach bunnies are spoilt for choice and some of the pearls of Salento are less than 15 minutes away including Santa Cesarea and Porto Badisco.
Olive picking takes place in the second half of October. During this time you can stay for a minimum of three nights and join in the olive picking and the making of the olive oil every step of the way with the local farmers. Every drop of oil is saved, right down to the last drops which end up in specially made jars for Palazzo Ducale Venturi.
