It’s all about location at Hotel Gródek, which lies within the sound of the ringing bells of Krakow’s St Mary’s Basilica. Despite being within the popular Old Town, the hotel is tucked away down a little cul-de-sac across from a park, offering a peaceful retreat.
When you arrive, the outside of the building feels rather unassuming but once inside you’ll be welcomed into a real sense of old-world charm. Downstairs, the drawing room and library bar both give off a distinctly opulent air with large leather sofas, antique furnishings and large roaring fires. Upstairs the theme continues, with Gródek managing to successfully preserve the heritage of the building whilst still operating a thoroughly comfortable hotel.
Service here is friendly and very attentive – the concierge in particular will bend over backwards to make sure you make the most of your stay.
A buffet breakfast is served each morning and is included in most room rates (check detail below). The Cul-de-Sac Restaurant is particularly good, specialising in Polish cuisine whilst also serving modern European dishes. There is also a lovely roof terrace and a bar, ideal for that nightcap after a long day out and about.
The 23 bedrooms are well appointed and individually designed with antique furnishings, charmingly chintzy fabrics and large bathrooms.
The hotel has a sauna, ideal to stretch out those muscles, and offers a range of massage treatments for that extra bit of pampering.
Location really is key here – set on the edge of Kraków’s Old Town, this hotel is close to many of the key sights and is a stone’s throw from the main square.
