If you’re looking to experience the rustic and romantic Kefalonia, made famous by Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, then Leivatho Hotel might not be for you. But, if you enjoy a spot of architectural design and like your boutiques modern and stylish, then you’ve come to the right place.
Set in an award-winning, concrete building on the south coast, Leivatho offers eco-friendly accommodation, with the hotel boasting its own solar energy and water recycling system.
For all its cool minimalism, there is a real warmth to the place, with the charming owner Maria and her staff going above and beyond to ensure you have a good stay.
This is a child-friendly hotel, but it's worth noting that it's only open seasonally (May - October).
A good breakfast featuring plenty of delicious organic products is served out by the pool. The pool bar, Bella Vista (meaning beautiful view), serves a range of drinks and light snacks throughout the day and each studio room comes with its own kitchenette if you’d like to self-cater.
The décor across the 32 rooms is simple and understated, with polished concrete floors and minimal furniture – though beds are particularly comfortable. There is a range of rooms available but all offer plenty of space and views of either the garden or the sea.
Prices here are pretty reasonable and, if you can stretch, we’d recommend plumping for the Junior Suite which comes with 180° views and a huge terrace. There are also a few Family Studios – perfect if you're travelling with the kids.
It's worth noting that there is a 2-night minimum stay at the Family Studio.
The hotel's pool is an inviting spot to spend an afternoon or two (open seasonally). There’s also a small gym on site and a sauna – perfect for unwinding after a long day.
Despite being a short drive from the airport, the area around the hotel is delightfully quiet. The lovely Avithos beach is a 5-minute walk away and the village of Metaxata 20 minutes. If you want some more hustle and bustle, the island's capital, Argostoli, is only a 25-minute drive away.
How to get there
Whilst the hotel is just a short drive from the airport, we would recommend hiring a car to best explore the island.
Kefalonia Airport is a 15-minute drive from the hotel (4km)
