Why so chic?
Why travel experts chose this hotel
Only when you book with Chic
Snuggled amidst sweeping lava fields and around an hour’s drive from Reykjavik, this sleek boutique hotel’s views alone are enough to enthrall. The Chic Retreat is close to the region’s prized Golden Circle: an out-of-this-world mix of dramatic waterfalls and magnificent volcanoes. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of those illusive northern lights while you’re there.
Perched on a dormant volcano, with one side of the hotel actually jutting off the edge, ION Adventure is nearly as striking as its jaw-dropping surroundings. Décor is almost minimalist, but with a few quirky extras adding some fun personality - expect anything from blown-up animal prints to metal chairs covered in fluffy furs.
A good breakfast buffet is served in the mornings, providing plenty of fuel to keep you buzzing until lunch time. Later in the day, head to the Silfra restaurant, where you can sample beautifully presented dishes that are (almost) too pretty to eat. For an afternoon or evening tipple, the Northern Lights Bar offers a range of wines and locally brewed beers.
Rooms are modern in style, with crisp bedding and great bathrooms. While décor is mostly minimalist, don’t be surprised if you find a large mural of a horse on the wall - a fun touch. You may even bag yourself a room with a view. It’s worth noting that some of the cheaper rooms are a little on the small side, so if you like space to stretch out we’d recommend upgrading.
True to its namesake, the Lava Spa overlooks the entrancing lava fields surrounding the hotel, which can be enjoyed alongside some great massages and treatments. There is also a pool to dip your toes into, not to mention a steamy sauna with striking views through the large glass windows.
