Lulu fell in love with Hotel Rural Es Cucons as soon as she entered the gates. Dating back to 1652, it is as beautiful as it is charming. In fact, we think it has to be one of the loveliest hotels in Ibiza.
The Chic Retreat has the perfect ingredients to make a wonderful luxury hotel: location, service and style. It is family-run by Maria and Barbara Rodrigues, who have turned this country house into the perfect hip escape.
The reception area in itself is a wonderful sitting room, with high ceilings and lovely pictures on the wall. Often you can even buy the pictures to take home with you.
Your wellbeing is taken seriously at this Chic Retreat, with massage therapist, Melanie Jane, ensuring you leave relaxed and rested. Treatments include aromatherapy massages and body scrubs, as well as manual lymphatic drainage and facials. The treatments are available to guests in the private and canopied open air pavilion. Melanie is also a pilates and yoga instructor, and offers personalised classes designed to recharge and revitalise.
The pool is in the garden in front of Es Cucons (there is also one for children), and there are hammocks dotted around for those looking for an afternoon snooze. Nearby activities include relaxing on beaches, walking across the beautiful landscape, cycling (use the hotel bikes), horse-riding, golf, exploring historic sites, sailing, snorkelling and scuba-diving.
The restaurant here is outstanding and very romantic. It is small but serves delicious Mediterranean food, created by chef Enrique Ocon and his team. Expect pasta, meat, fish and vegetarian dishes among others, or tuck into the delicious meat and cheese board. There are also coeliac and children's menus.
To add an extra touch of luxury, the restaurant is beautifully lit up by candles in the evening, or you can eat outside in the stunning gardens.
Breakfast is an extensive spread of tasty meats, cheeses, baked goods, home-made cakes, fruits, and hot meals. There is also a gluten-free section.
