Hotel TerraVina is the latest success story for Nina & Gerard Basset, a luxury gem in the New Forest, Hampshire. The contemporary yet homely rooms, top-rate friendly service, gourmet menu and incredible wine list, chosen by award-winning sommelier, Gerard, make this the perfect resting place on a trip to the famous forest, and with the daring addition of an outdoor swimming pool, heated of course, guests are certainly not left wanting.
With a great location in the New Forest, Hotel TerraVina is superbly placed for hiking trips, mountain-biking, bird-watching and horse-riding. With the coast close by, there are some lovely beaches to visit with watersports such as windsurfing available and there are some good golf courses to choose from too. Red and fallow deer can be seen in the Otter Owl & Wildlife Park and there are plenty of gorgeous gardens close by. Also within easy reach are Southampton, Winchester, Lymington and Bournemouth, which have some great shops and historical places of interest, and there are a plethora of lovely little towns dotted around.
However, there is no need to go further than the hotel, with its cosy lounge and heated outdoor pool with fabulous stripy loungers surrounded by a quaint white picket fence.
The California-style restaurant offers an inventive menu using fresh locally-sourced ingredients. Interesting flavours are infused throughout, and diners can choose from starters such as fig, caramelised pecan nut and goats cheese salad and sumptuous mains such as solent sea bass, citrus parpadelle and avruga caviar. Sunday lunch is also served. Guests can see their food prepared in the open kitchen and the wood burning oven cooks a roast to perfection and also keeps the restaurant nice and toasty in winter. In better weather, the restaurant opens out onto the verandah. Of course, with Gerard Basset's expertise, wine plays a strong part in the restaurant and with a large cellar to choose from and the advice of Gerard, awarded as one of the best sommeliers in the world, guests are sure to have a unique taste experience.
