Shambala Lodge is a new addition to Guadeloupe’s boutique accommodation scene. And what an absolute gem of a place it is too. Perched above Porte D’enfer beach, Shambala is a collection of five immaculately presented cabins – set around a peaceful and tranquil garden with a fish pond and swimming pool.
There is a zen vibe here, with weekly yoga classes held on the open-air sitting and breakfast area and a Balinese style massage room where some of the best local therapists can provide a range of different treatments.
Owners Pierre and Déborah are absolutely charming and hugely knowledgeable about where to eat, which beaches to visit and where the best surf will be on any given day.
A delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, croissants, breads and jams is available each morning for an additional charge. There is no restaurant here, but Pierre will be able to advise which are the best places to eat nearby.
Each of the five cabins has a small kitchen area, terrace, comfortable king-sized bed and semi-open-air shower room. Standing under the rainfall shower, the gentle chatter of wildlife all around and the moonlight shining down is absolute bliss.
There is a 2-night minimum stay.
There is a lovely outdoor swimming pool – perfect for a lazy afternoon in the sun. A weekly yoga class is held on the decking and a range of massages are also available in a small treatment room tucked away in the garden.
Located in a secluded position above a beach near Le Moule, on the north-east coast of Guadeloupe, you will definitely want a car to get here and around with the island's various beaches, waterfalls and towns all quite spread out. The popular town of Saint-François is a 12-minute drive from the hotel (10km) and the beautiful beaches at Pointe des Châteaux are about a 25-minute drive away (20km). Pierre can assist with arranging local tours and providing guidance on where to visit during your stay in Guadeloupe.
