Set on the Ashvem beachfront amongst swaying palm trees and the lapping waves of the Arabian sea, Anahata Retreat is what Goan dreams are made of. The 15 rooms come in a variety of different shapes and locations, but all are comfortable and very close to the sea. The Beach Front Cottages are a particular treat, boasting views out over the sea from your bed.
Service here is laid back and friendly and there’s a great restaurant on site. Whilst WiFi can be a little iffy, this is true of much of the area and with an extensive program of yoga and meditation available why not just switch off and unwind – the world can wait...
L'Atelier restaurant sits at the heart of Anahata, serving a wholesome and healthy breakfast which comes included with most room prices (check detail below). The lunch and dinner menu offers up a fusion of Goan flavours with a real focus on fresh-off-the-boat fish from the local area. If you fancy a change, there are also plenty of other restaurants to choose from just a short walk along the beach.
For the genuine beach bungalow experience we’d suggest opting for one of the Cottages: octagonal huts, built on stilts and made from wood and palm, most come with a small balcony in front. It's worth noting that they have fans rather than air conditioning.
If you would prefer brick and mortar over wood and palm, then opt for one of the Seaview Suites, which are set a little further inland and built in a Goan Portuguese style, offering the added comfort of air conditioning though a little less of the rustic charm.
One of the main attractions of Anahata is the yoga and meditation space, which is set up on a small cliff above the beach with expansive views out over the sea. There are regular yoga, tai chi and meditation classes available (we recommend booking in advance), as well as Ajuverdic massages organised on request.
Beach-worshippers will get their fill of powdery sands here: Anahata Retreat is located right on Ashvem Beach, which is set between Mandrem Beach to the north and Morjhim Beach to the south.
