Surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, lush woodland and the beautiful beaches of nearby Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Biarritz, Hotel Arraya is an idyllic spot in the pretty village of Sare. Charming and picturesque, the 16th-century building is rich in character, not to mention enthralling views.
Arraya is a family affair; now being run by the third generation, you can expect to receive some very warm Basque hospitality during your stay. It doesn’t end there: the 16-room hotel has been immaculately decorated with beautiful antique furnishings, plenty of rich fabrics and a great collection of paintings and drawings.
A delicious breakfast is served each morning, with freshly-squeezed orange juice, homemade jams and the famous Bayonne chocolate. The hotel restaurant is not to be missed either, serving up some wonderful Basque dishes using locally-sourced ingredients where possible (though it's worth checking the opening times, particularly if travelling outside peak season).
There are three room types available, with each step up offering a bit more space than the last. Each of the 16 rooms has been individually decorated with traditional décor, comfy beds and rich fabrics. Most also feature some gorgeous views of either the garden or the charming village square.
Browse through the local Basque delicacies, including foie gras, confit de canard and jams alongside other local craft items in the hotel’s small shop. There is also a blooming garden: the perfect setting for an afternoon lounge.
Beyond the hotel perimeters, there is plenty to keep you busy: walk through the thriving countryside, pedal through the hills in a rented bike, or explore the charming village of Sare. You’re not too far from the beach either, with the seaside town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz a short drive away.
