    Introduction

A charming boutique hotel in the centre of Franschhoek, Le Quartier Français (also known simply as LQF) shares the same attention to detail and dedication to the finer things in life as sister hotels Leeu Estates and Leeu House. The interiors, inspired by the village’s historic French roots, have the understated elegance of a Gallic country house with sumptuous fabrics, wicker furniture and a creamy palette.

The hotel’s garden, in the shadow of the majestic Franschhoek Mountains, is perfect for all-day lazy lounging, and there’s a pool for splashing into during those sultry summer days. During the winter months, curl up beside the roaring fireplace in the hotel bar. Minutes away from the vineyards of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, yet still just over an hour from the centre of Cape Town, Le Quartier Français is an excellent base for exploring the Cape Winelands.

    Activities
The hotel’s peaceful garden is the perfect spot to unwind with a good book, and the small but perfectly formed swimming pool is particularly inviting during the hotter months. The chic village of Franschhoek is particularly popular with visiting Capetonians, and there are plenty of bijou shops and bars to occupy you as you meander through its quaint streets. Art lovers will particularly enjoy visiting the contemporary artwork at the Everard Read Art Gallery, just metres away from the hotel.

The surrounding Franschhoek Valley is an area of outstanding natural beauty, as well as an important wine-producing region. No visit would be complete without a visit to one of the over 50 wineries spread throughout this picturesque valley. The vineyards can be explored on horseback or by bicycle, but a particularly popular option is the vintage tramcar that threads a route between the valley’s most popular wineries. The hotel team will be more than happy to arrange private tasting sessions at wineries for real oenophiles.
    Dining

Gourmets will be well-served by Le Quartier Français. The Garden Room serves famously delectable breakfasts, with large glass doors giving it sunny views into the courtyard. For a truly unique culinary experience, it’s hard to beat dinner at La Petite Colombe, sister restaurant to the acclaimed establishment in Constantia, Cape Town. Serving a taster menu of brilliantly-executed dishes highlighting the best flavours of South Africa, La Petite Colombe is perfect for an unforgettable romantic meal.

Le Quartier Français’ delightful bar serves light, tapas-style bites throughout the day, perfectly paired with one of their signature gin cocktails. Gin lovers can construct their perfect G&T from the wide selection of tonics and spirits available, including an exciting array of craft gins making use of African botanicals such as baobab, buchu and kapokbos. Needless to say, there is also a fine selection of local vintages to savour.
