A unique rural boutique, Villa Campestri is dedicated to the rich, luxurious olive oil that flows like liquid gold through Tuscan cuisine. Situated in Mugello, this Renaissance-era villa is set amongst a rolling landscape of woodland and olive groves, the produce of which is turned into the estate’s very own olive oil. Throughout your stay you’ll have the chance to experience Villa Campestri Olive Oil, not only in the hotel’s restaurant but also in the spa, which offers indulgent olive oil massages. Whether relaxing in the pool, exploring the estate, or visiting one of the historic villages dotted about the historic countryside, Villa Campestri is a tranquil Tuscan getaway.
Breakfast at Villa Campestri Olive Oil Resort is a veritable feast. Savour freshly-laid eggs from the hens on the hotel estate, indulge in freshly-baked pastries and local cheeses and meats, or enjoy a bowl of yoghurt topped with the fragrant honey produced by the hotel’s bees.
The restaurant, L'Olivaia, serves dishes inspired by the Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the estate. This cold pressed rich green oil is complemented by fresh, organic produce from the estate's own garden and dishes include delicate carpaccios, home made pastas and the famous, mouthwatering Cinta Senese pork.
The rooms at Villa Campestri are spread across the main villa, adjoining farmhouse and the old dairy. All of them have views of the surrounding countryside and parkland, and are decorated in a traditional Italian style with rich colours and fabrics complimenting antique furniture and pictures.
The hotel has an extensive estate which guests are free to explore at their leisure. Lose yourself in ancient olive groves, or take a stroll through the woodland where you can find chestnut, oak, wild cherry and hazel trees. During the truffle season, you can take part in truffle-hunting expeditions on the estate grounds. If you’re of a more active disposition, explore the surrounding countryside with one of the hotel’s complimentary mountain bikes, then follow this with a relaxing dip in the hotel pool, which has stunning panoramic views of the Tuscan valleys. If you’re in a contemplative mood, paint the landscape that inspired Giotto with a maestro specialising in 14th-century techniques.
Villa Campestri has a wellness centre offering a range of treatments and massages. Take part in an ‘earthing’ walk, or one of the regular yoga classes. For an indulgent and relaxing ritual, take advantage of the massages utilising the estate’s own olive oil.
Learn more about this liquid gold at one of the seminars offered at the hotel’s Oleateca, where you will learn the fine art of olive oil tasting, and other classes enable you to turn your hand to making your own oil, or even your own olive oil soap. The hotel also offers cooking courses, ranging from courses teaching homemade pasta to a masterclass on the rich, flavoursome sauces used in Tuscan cooking. At the end of the session you’ll have the chance to devour your creations, with a glass or two of local wine.
