Nestled in the hills just outside Essaouira sits the rather elegant Le Jardin des Douars. Set in its own gorgeous botanical garden and free from the worst of the blustery local winds thanks to its slightly inland location, this lovely boutique hotel is an oasis indeed.
Whilst children are very welcome here, the owners are sensitive to those looking for some chill time with an adult-only pool and dining options available.
The hotel is purposefully light on the mod cons with no TV, phones or internet in the rooms, and the WiFi in the public areas can be patchy at that. Not to worry, after a day spent floating in the pool, wandering the gardens and eating supper by candlelight under the stars, we shouldn’t think you’ll need much other stimulation.
A generous breakfast buffet is served each morning, and is included in most room rates (see detail below).
There is a wonderful restaurant serving up traditional Moroccan cuisine with a few French twists for dinner – either out on the terrace, under the stars in fair weather or in the lovely dining area inside on cooler evenings. A light lunch is also on offer with a child-friendly menu available.
The style across the 28 rooms is traditional Moroccan – simple but luxurious, with richly coloured berber rugs and blankets set against crisp white linens and cool, tiled floors with added treats like argan oil products and fluffy bathrobes. Rooms come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes but all are lovely, from the compact and cosy Standard Relax through to the spacious Luxury Room. There are a number of larger Suites available – perfect if you’re travelling as a family.
It's worth noting that there is a 4-night minimum stay over peak holiday periods.
There are two pools (one of which is adult-only) tucked away in the hotel's gorgeous gardens. If you're here to relax, pay a visit to the on-site hammam where there are a variety of massages and treatments available.
The hotel setting is rather remote (and lovely for it) but you’ll need to head into Essaouira should you be looking to venture out as there isn’t anything else around. There is a reasonably priced shuttle service to run guests to and from town.
The famous 36-hole golf course, Golf de Mogador, is a 20-minute drive away (13km).
