Dar Sahil is a luxury riad or guesthouse just south of the coastal town of Essaouira and is imbued with the warmth and hospitality of its owners, Stéphanie and Laurent. Dar Sahil is a private and peaceful Chic Retreat away from the crowds, and in keeping with Essaouira’s colonial past, it combines French style with Morocco’s exotic cuisine and climate.
With just 6 bedrooms plus a suite, Dar Sahil is one of the most charming boutique riads Essaouira has to offer. A beautiful swimming pool, accessible from all of the bedrooms, is a centrepiece for the guesthouse, while the family suite comes with its own private terrace.
With ‘conviviality and calm’ as their watchwords, Stéphanie and Laurent have chosen décor of simple, rustic charm, with Moroccan accents in the shape of carved wooden furniture and doors, rich carpets and pale, rough-hewn stone walls. Gardens growing fruits, flowers and argan trees supply wonderful aroma and colour.
There’s no better way to explore Essaouira’s beaches and hinterland than by quad bike, and Dar Sahil will organise adventurous two-day trips featuring lunch at an authentic local restaurant and a bivouac dinner under the stars.
Golfers will want to take advantage of the Golf de Mogador, a course designed by the legendary golfer Gary Player, which has been described by Golf World Magazine as one of the 20 most beautiful in the world. Only 10 minutes away, it offers players unforgettable views of the Atlantic coast. Horse and dromedary rides along the coast are also available, while Essaouira’s fabled coastal winds make it an exciting location for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Surfers will want to try their skills at Moulay Bouzertoun, a few miles down the coast from Essaouira, where even wilder conditions provide a thrilling challenge for the experienced.

Guests particularly praise the prix fixe menu of expertly prepared Moroccan food, sourced from local suppliers and markets and cooked under the supervision of owner Stéphanie. Feeling sociable? Join your fellow guests at the communal table. For a more intimate dinner, choose a table for two.
