The slogan in the window of the Grassmarket Hotel – ‘beds for sleepy heads’ – is a neat summation of what this hotel, and all hotels, should be about. It may seem fairly unassuming from the outside, but once you’re checked in you’ll find fun décor and a friendly vibe. The corridors to the bedrooms are almost labyrinthine, and when you get there, you'll find a refreshingly modern – albeit quite compact – space with anything from old Beano & Dandy comics or Edinburgh maps on the walls.
The location is perfect, the layout is smart, and the staff are savvy – we think you’d be hard pushed to find better value in this busy Scottish city. You can even order up breakfast in bed if you’ve had a little too much fun the night before.
The hotel adjoins Biddy Mulligans – an Irish pub serving the hotel breakfast, not to mention some hearty pub classics and drinks throughout the day. For those of you that want your midday meal on-the-go, packed lunches are available upon request.
There are a range of room options available, including Triples and Quadruples – great if you're travelling in a group or with the little ones. A lovely touch are the regular maths puzzles that the cleaning team will put on the bedroom walls while you’re out and about – answers can be checked at reception.
The hotel is extremely well-positioned, located right in the middle of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town – a World Heritage Site. Popular attractions such as the Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and the Cowgate are all just a stone's throw away.
