Run by the charming owners, Paul Lightfoot and John MacEwan, not to mention their black labradoodle Milli, 94DR is a contemporary guesthouse just outside Edinburgh’s city centre. With only six rooms, the atmosphere here is as personable as it is relaxed - a welcome retreat after the hustle and bustle of the city centre nearby.
Décor is wonderfully chic, from the largely monochrome colour palette, to the modern furnishings and quirky artwork. You’ll find the odd period feature dotted throughout too, with a Victorian tiled lobby and grand fireplaces in most rooms.
Please note that this property is not suitable for children under two years of age.
Owner Paul is a trained chef who certainly knows how to tantalise the tastebuds. Head to the Breakfast Room in the mornings and you’ll be greeted with his excellent cooking; from a delicious full Scottish to eggs benedict, there’s something new on the menu everyday. Breakfast is included in most room rates (see detail below).
There are six rooms at 94DR, all of which have been designed with careful attention to detail and artistic flair. Modern and stylish, with the odd period feature dotted throughout, expect comfy beds, a mainly monochrome colour scheme and spotless bathrooms with luxe toiletries. A particular highlight is the teddy bears that sit on the beds in most rooms. If you’re travelling with the kids, family options are available by joining rooms.
Located in Newington, a neighbourhood just outside the city centre, the hotel is a 10-minute bus or short taxi ride to Prince’s Street. If you’re feeling active, you can hop on a hotel bike and whiz to the city on two wheels.
Put your legs through their paces and climb Arthur’s Seat, the foot of which is around five minutes’ walk from the hotel. Prefer a leisurely stroll? Holyrood Park is the place for you, and is also just five minutes away.
