• Rooms

It’s easy to see the effort and love that Katie and Alex have put into the hotel; each of the rooms has been individually designed with no two the same. While some feature quaint patterned wallpapers and bold headboards, others are decked out with beamed ceilings and antique furnishings.

  • Overview

With a history that dates back several centuries, this old-world coaching inn sits on the cobbled high street in the medieval town of Rye in East Sussex. It’s long-stretching heritage is evident throughout the building, each century having left its mark - be it the 18th-century Gill Parliamentary clock, the 19th-century Georgian ballroom or the Elizabethan galley beams.

Today, the coaching inn is home to an award-winning boutique hotel, which has been painstakingly restored and renovated by the lovely owners, Katie and Alex. Stylish interiors blend seamlessly with the building’s original features, with patterned wallpapers, vibrant artwork and individually designed rooms.

Located right on the high street, the hotel is well-placed for exploring Rye. The 13th-century Rye Castle Museum is definitely worth a visit, and make sure to schedule in some time simply wandering through Rye’s patchwork of cobbled streets and soak up the town’s historic architecture.

The George Grill and Tap serves a delectable European menu with a focus on locally sourced produce. As can be expected from a former coaching inn, a great range of lagers, beers and local real ales are also served on tap - not to mention an impressive range of both international and locally sourced English wines.

Got a sweet tooth? Rye is renowned for its cream teas, so what better way to embrace local spirit with one of The George’s Afternoon Teas, which are as indulgent as they are delicious.

A good breakfast is served in the mornings and is included in most room rates (see rate detail below).
