Nestled on the slopes above the stunning Mylopotas bay, overlooking the azure water of the Aegean sea, Levantes boutique hotel rises out of the scenery with the trademark white-washed splendour of the Cycladic islands.
Ios, once a notorious pirate outpost, steeped in history - and secrecy - is now a thriving cosmopolitan community combining blissful beaches, oceanfront eateries, buzzing drinking spots and hilltop hikes that provide stunning panoramic vistas over to neighbouring islands.
The recently refurbished breakfast hall plays host to a homemade Greek buffet of various sweet and savoury pastries, meats, cheeses, fruits and, of course, thick Greek yoghurt as well as delicious, local, homemade pies and honey from local producers.
The restaurant and bar area stay open until late, serving hearty local fare and other mediterranean inspired cuisine. Levantes overlooks the buzzing nightlife district of Mylopotamos that is brimming with top-quality tavernas and drinking saloons.
The pool bar serves up thirst-quenching tipples and a selection of bites.
Comprised of 19 rooms and suites, Levantes emphasises the area’s community vibe. Each room is tastefully decorated in the quintessential whitewash aesthetic, with delicate and authentic furnishings and many boasting spa baths in the bathroom. Some of the pricier suites include a private plunge pool on the terrace, with views out over the bay.
Overlooking the golden sands of Mylopotas beach, Levantes Boutique Hotel is just a 10-minute walk away from an array of coastal pleasures, including windsurfing, wakeboarding and canoe safaris. From the next bay around the coast, Levantes can organise chartered yacht trips and scuba diving is also available.
The hotel can also organise car rental, ideal for accessing the famous Manganari beach on the south of the island, said to be the best in all of Ios with its warm, shallow, turquoise waters, and just a 30-minute drive away from Levantes.
For those craving a more leisurely pace, massage and nail appointments can be made on request and enjoyed in the comfort of your own room.
The hotel’s pool may be petite, but it’s more for sinking into in the midday heat - cocktail in hand - to enjoy the view, rather than for practicing lengths.
