Nestled amidst the theatres and bars of London’s fashionable West End, The Hospital Club gives you the chance to stay in one of the city’s most stylish private members clubs. The brainchild of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and Eurythmics frontman David Stewart, The Hospital Club offers a space for media professionals to unwind and connect with fellow creatives, and during your stay you’ll have access to all of the Club’s exclusive, members-only spaces.
Formerly a hospital, the unique historic building has been fully renovated with a style inspired by 1970s Californian cool. The Club has several lounges, terraces and bars, and the restaurant has won awards for its commitment to sustainable produce. The gallery space holds four public exhibitions of contemporary art per year, and throughout the Club and bedrooms you’ll see works by both members and promising young artists. There’s also a 38-seat cinema, screening both arthouse films and the latest blockbusters in luxurious comfort. Stylishly retro yet worlds away from some of the more old-school London clubs, The Hospital Club is perfect for those looking for a unique hideaway in Covent Garden.
How often can you enjoy an expertly-crafted cocktail as you dress for dinner? Every evening before dinner, one of the Club’s mixologists offers a complimentary drink from a charming vintage drinks trolley, in the comfort of your own room.
Your appetite sufficiently whetted, head down to the Club’s restaurant, which serves British classics using locally-sourced, sustainable produce. The restaurant is open throughout the day, making it the perfect place for casual lunches in-between exploring the West End, or quick pre-theatre dinners.
After dinner, retire to one of the many bars and lounges within the Club, from the laid-back Bellini Bar, where members sip cocktails before a spectacular floor-to-ceiling Julie Verhoeven collage, to the Martini Lounge, which celebrates the iconic drink.
Sweet dreams are made of these, indeed. The Club’s 15 bedrooms have a stylish, retro décor that evokes the assured style of 1970s California with chic wood-panelling and vintage fixtures. All of the rooms are adorned with works of art by the Club’s members, and are a real visual delight. It’s worth noting that some of the rooms are ‘sleepers’, and do not have windows.
As a guest, you’ll have access to many of the Club’s exclusive spaces. Watch the latest blockbuster in the state-of-the-art cinema, which seats 38 in its elegant leather seats, or relax in one of the many lounges. The Chalk Lounge, complete with pool table, has stunning views over London’s rooftops, while the Oak Room Lounge has a dance-floor where you can let loose to the sound of live musical performances and world-class DJs.
The Hospital Club is perfectly located in the West End, within walking distance of the capital’s best theatres, galleries and museums. Alternatively, explore the tangled warren of streets and yards centred around Seven Dials, just a short stroll from Inigo Jones’ elegant Piazza. Neal’s Yard, home to the eponymous Neal’s Yard Remedies and Neal’s Yard Dairy is a particularly pleasant spot.
