If it’s a traditional country bolthole in the Cotswolds you’re after, look no further than The Slaughters Inn. Located just a 5-minute drive from Bourton-on-the-Water, it comes complete with a pub area, a restaurant, a crackling fire, and a sun-trap terrace with River Eye views. A great pick for serenity-seekers, foodies, and hikers alike.
The property has a rather intriguing history: once a country farmhouse, the centuries-old building later became an Eton cramming school, before it took on the role as a charming countryside retreat.
With so much greenery to explore, this pet-friendly hotel is a great place to bring your pup (extra charges apply, and please arrange with hotel ahead of arrival).
The on-site restaurant serves a range of classic dishes such as sausage and mash and ham and chips, alongside more inventive plates such as celeriac risotto and spiced buttermilk hake. Local Cotswold produce is made the most of where possible. The bar is well-stocked too – perfect for that pre-dinner tipple. And the hotel also offers an excellent Afternoon Tea.
If you fancy venturing out to eat, sister property The Slaughters Manor House is just over the stream, with a 3 AA Rosette eatery.
The Slaughters Inn has 31 rooms and suites which come in a range of different shapes and sizes and blend original features such as wood beams with contemporary décor. If you’re travelling with little ones, family suites are available. There are also accessible rooms – please notify the hotel ahead of arrival.
During the winter months, cosy up in front of the fire with a hot chocolate, while in the summer the terrace is a great place to sip on a glass of something chilled. Hikers will find many beautiful trails to meander through: Bourton-on-the-Water is a half an hour stroll away, and if you fancy going further, continue on to Stow-on-the-Wold.
