Environmentally-friendly contemporary design
Stunning views over the surrounding cloud forest
20 acres of lush gardens to explore
Set against the backdrop of a sub-tropical cloud forests, Poas Volcano Lodge is a chic hideaway offering luxury in the heart of a stunning natural landscape. Constructed on the site of owner Michael Cannon’s former home, the lodge has a contemporary, eco-friendly design with a particular emphasis on sustainable local materials. Expansive windows give sweeping views over Poas Volcano and the lush northern Caribbean Plains, while the hotel’s 20-acres of gardens offer the chance to experience the gorgeous scenery first-hand. With a warmly welcoming atmosphere, fine local cuisine, and a commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism, Poas Volcano Lodge is one of our favourite getaways in Costa Rica.
Explore the hotel’s lush gardens, with many trails winding through the surrounding cloud forests. Nature-lovers will have the chance to spot a wide range of wildlife, including hummingbirds, butterflies, orchids and the famous Resplendent Quetzal. In the evenings, curl up in the lodge’s sitting room, where you can enjoy a nightcap before a crackling fire, with comfortable chairs arranged around the trunk of a Costa Rican Oak taken from the local farm. There is also a library and games room, while yoga or massages can be organised by the hotel on request.
There are many stunning natural treasures to visit in the surrounding cloud forests. The Poas Volcano National Park is just a short drive from the hotel. It’s worth noting that the Poas Volcano is active, and regularly erupts, so always check with the hotel beforehand as the National Park is sometimes closed for safety reasons. The La Paz Waterfall Garden makes for an attractive alternative. A privately owned ecological centre, the Garden includes a butterfly observatory, hummingbird garden and 3.5 kilometres of trails leading to three majestic waterfalls.
Start your day the right way with the hotel’s gorgeous breakfast spread, featuring homemade bread, granola made to the Cannon family recipe, jam harvested from locally-grown strawberries, and fresh milk from the Lodge’s dairy.
The Bromelia Restaurant serves a mixture of European and traditional Costa Rican cuisine, using the finest locally sourced ingredients. Enjoy gorgeous views of the mist-shrouded cloud forests from the restaurant’s expansive windows.
